History

In 2005, a group of 7 young people joined together as a group and wanted to carry forward the good work for the orphans and needy youth. They resolved to regularly save some money from their own salaries and initially supported 10 poor slum children in Bangalore. Later, in order to reach out to many needy and poor children, they registered the group as Chilume Social Service Society on December 28, 2006. Due to personal reasons, some of the members remained as supporters, while Mr Joseph A.T took up the organization and its functions as full-time director.

Chilume adheres to all government and legal provisions. It has availed 12A, 80G certificates in the year 2010, and in the year 2012, were covered under FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) from the Home Ministry of India. Later, Chilume accommodated like-minded professionals from all walks of life into the present Board, and in 2010, started work with full-pledged programmes. In 2010, Chilume joined forces with CSR programme and initiated Tailoring Skill Training Programme at Kanakapura. By the end of the year, 87 poor women completed training and were provided alternate job opportunities. Till date, CSR supports our skill development programmes. With support from CSR, Chilume opened a new chapter in Education sector. As many as 375 poor students are supported for their holistic education programme with financial support. With the CSR partners, we could bring drastic transformation impacting education aspirations of hundreds of less privileged students in Kanakapura, Bangarpet, and Bangalore North talukas.
